Dear —,

I'm sorry to say, I won't be accepting your work for Poetry Ireland Review 147.

I know this will be a disappointment; all I can say is that I read 2,500 poems or more and had hard choices to make. Our theme is "Love Poems to Humans"; I wanted to reflect a broad encompassing theme, to do justice to a wide spectrum of submissions, and this sometimes led to my not being able to accept some fine poems that were very similar in theme and treatment to others.

I fully accept that as an editor I make choices shaped by my own tastes and formation as a poet. There is, when it come to making choices, no avoiding the question of personal taste — another editor might very well have chosen a different set of poems.

Thank you for allowing me the privilege of seeing your work.

With my good wishes,

Theo Dorgan
