Dear [Author],

Thank you for sending "[title of story]" to december. Unfortunately, it's not quite a fit for us, but we enjoyed reading it. We admire the research and work it must have taken to construct this historical piece. However, we found ourselves wanting a deeper narrative here -- we couldn't always understand or feel character motivations, and we wanted to see the cause and effect of of the story more closely and clearly.

2019

Dear first-name, Thank you for sending your poems to december. Unfortunately, none in this group was quite a fit, but we enjoyed reading all of them. Each had compelling moments and lines ("[Title]" came closest), but none in its entirety mustered a consensus among our editorial staff. One of our editors noted, "[Personal observation]." We appreciate the support implicit in your submission and hope you’ll send new work our way again in the future.
 All the best,
